Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager
Spurs supporters who booed keeper Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League at home loss of 2025.
However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his area.
He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.
But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs fans booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions truly angered the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans apparently booed the situation and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period showing.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".
"I certainly understand the fans' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Tottenham.
He said following the match that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball long and I just struck the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "comes with football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse results. This match is a poor defeat and it is hard to take."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the next longest-range top division goal of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.
Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five moments following the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of additional time. After that it was all about trying to make the right contact and place it towards goal. I felt a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Work Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - Frank
While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.
The match was their tenth at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against the manager's former club the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have suffered another match. Every game has a single narrative, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to develop."
Tottenham have lost 4 straight home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.
And they are recording 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest averages on record in a one campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
