The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
