Suspected Harasser Inquired: 'However Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a recorded message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the court learned phone records and data recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized investigations and continues to be unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
One recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine had been, but I know what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "What if there is a small chance that I'm her? What then? Isn't that important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The panel was advised that via electronic messages, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the information, told the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will persist and I will prove my position."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted through communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months before the trip to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their home, Mrs Spragg sent a message which expressed: "We are positioned adjacent to the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark similar to investigators. I desired to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
