President Trump Calls Relatives of Injured Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their memory.
White House Offer
The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Mourners came together over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event led the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
