Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder
The striker is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year following leading derogatory taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has signed a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.
One of the player's final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading insulting chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Moving Forward
All appears to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
The forward made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
