LA Dodgers Survive in Canada to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in World Series

The championship series is going to a decisive seventh game after the Los Angeles Dodgers kept their repeat dreams intact Friday night with a three to one win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders ended Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a thrilling final double play, silencing a Rogers Centre audience that had arrived prepared to celebrate the city’s championship in over three decades.

Sixth Game Summary

Los Angeles produced all of their scoring in the third inning. With two away, Ohtani was intentionally walked before Will Smith doubled to left field to bring home Edman. Freeman earned a base on balls to fill the bases, and Mookie Betts came through with a two-run single to the opposite field, handing the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit broke a playoff dry spell and rekindled the title holders' aspirations of being the first repeat World Series victors since the Yankees captured three consecutive from 1998 through 2000.

Pitching Battle

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that stage, fanning half a dozen of the initial seven Dodgers he confronted. He fanned eight through three innings, matching a Fall Classic record, but the third-frame rally proved costly. The Toronto ace ended with eight strikeouts over six innings, yielding three runs on three hits and two walks.

Yamamoto, in contrast, was steady again under stress. The 27-year-old right-hander outpitched Gausman for the second occasion in a week, giving up one run on five base hits over six frames with six strikeouts. He boosted his record to 4–1 this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.

The lone score against him came on Springer’s two-out base hit in the third, scoring Addison Barger, who had hit a double earlier in the inning. Springer’s hit provided a brief spark in his return to the starting nine after missing two games with an oblique injury.

Bullpen Heroics

After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen took over. First-year pitcher Justin Wrobleski got out of a jam in the seventh, and another rookie Sasaki pitched into the ninth before hitting Alejandro Kirk to open the inning. Barger then hit a two-base hit that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, obliging base runners to hold at second and third base.

Glasnow, the Dodgers' Game 3 starter, came on in a relief role and induced a pop fly before Giménez hit a line drive to left. Hernández made the catch and threw to second base to retire the runner, clinching the win and earning the pitcher his first-ever save.

Next Up: Seventh Game

The best-of-seven now comes down to one game. Scherzer will take the mound for the Blue Jays, making him the only living pitcher to pitch in more than one World Series Game 7s after accomplishing that in the 2019 season with Washington. The veteran signed a one-year deal to pursue one more title and has been a vocal leader throughout this playoff run.

The Los Angeles squad, looking to be baseball’s first back-to-back champions in nearly a quarter-century, are projected to lean on Shohei Ohtani for a short outing.
