Mikel Arteta has voiced fears that his squad's chase for titles this campaign is being jeopardized by a concerning cycle of fitness setbacks and a grueling fixture list.

Star player Declan Rice missed the midweek clash to face Club Brugge due to sickness. Meanwhile, forward Leandro Trossard and center-back William Saliba are still on the sidelines.

There was, however, better news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the South American forward added to their European squad. He replaces the injured youngster Max Dowman, who picked up an ankle problem.

"Training, no because we lack time to train. But clearly the fact that you are without players, you are loading other players more, there's a consequence to that and it's a truly vicious cycle."

Dowman's setback is the latest in a long series of injuries for the North London side. Since the beginning of last campaign, they have suffered 95 injuries, the second-highest total in the Premier League.

Extended Absences

• Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhães are not expected to be back until 2025.
• Midfielder Kai Havertz continues to rehabilitate from knee and "needs more time," as stated by the boss.

Arteta dismissed the idea that practice methods were to culprit, pointing to a shortage of opportunity for sessions. He highlighted the pressure on available players, some of whom have played over 150 matches in two years.

Recruitment Strategy

Despite a major summer spend over £250 million, Arteta stated the club is not planning to enter the winter recruitment market.

"At the moment we're just concentrating on getting the players back and hopefully it will be a matter of weeks," he commented. "We know how crucial those weeks are going to be."

Next Challenge

The squad suffered their first loss in 18 matches at the weekend, cutting their advantage at the summit of the Premier League to two clear points.

Focus now shifts to the Champions League, where a sixth group-stage victory would virtually secure a top-eight place. Forward Gabriel Martinelli could make a club record by finding the net in a fifth straight successive European match.

"The team is disappointed with the outcome, but we have to move forward," he said. "It's not like everything is going badly because we lost one game. So we stick together."
