History of Targeted Attacks
Since the onset of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military officials have been targeted within Moscow.
This latest event comes after other serious incidents, including:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a informant earlier linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not formally acknowledged as a matter of policy.
Hostilities has increasingly seen clandestine operations moving into the streets of the Russian capital.
