A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThe swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,â Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
âIf we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,â Levine Cava continued. âLet this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.â
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the regionâs Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â originating from a musical verse â often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared â6-7â its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThis swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,â said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt embodies the character of Miami: happy, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.â
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
